We all get in funks where life doesn’t feel right—especially if you’ve been feeling stressed out lately and running on low. This is a normal part of life that every goddess goes through once in a while. You’re not your usual boss self, not feeling confident, and not sure how to get back on track.
The good news is it isn’t permanent. We’ve got a cure for the Moody Blues or—as Audrey Hepburn famously put it in Breakfast at Tiffany’s—the Mean Reds. Here are a few steps to take to help refresh your soul and get you ready to wake up the next day ready to take on the world.
Step 1: Take a soak in the tub. Break out the bath bombs, scented candles, and put on your favorite, relaxing playlist.
Cleansing your soul works both literally and figuratively. Soak until your fingers are pruny and enjoy the heat of the water. Choose a bath bomb in a scent such as lavender, which is known to help calm the senses. Need something fun to listen to but don’t want to get bogged down in a ton of lyrics? Listen to the instrumental versions! Many of your favorite pop and rock songs are available.
Step 2: Deep condition your hair. Not only does this set you up for a future of better hair days, but you’ll also enjoy the way your locks feel after the process.
Deep conditioning your hair should be one of the first things you do upon getting in the tub. First, wet your hair and ring out as much excess moisture as possible. Then apply your favorite deep conditioning formula. Leave it on while you continue to enjoy your bath. Then rinse it out and proceed to your normal shampoo and conditioner routine.
Step 3: Exfoliate like your skin depends on it, because it does. Then shave with a brand-new razor.
Exfoliating and shaving are crucial steps in preparing your skin for self-tanning. Plus, doing so removes layers of dead skin to leave your legs feeling baby soft and silky. As a pro tip, always exfoliate before shaving. Exfoliating removes dirt and skin cells from the surface, which unclogs your pores and helps you achieve a closer shave.
Step 4: Self Tan (or Get The Ó Glo)
After you’ve wrapped up your bath, it’s time to self-tan. Get the Ó Glo by first moisturizing dry areas, paying extra attention to knees, elbows, feet, and hands. Then apply one to two pumps of self-tanning product to the Ópalens self-tanning application mitt. Gently rub in a circular motion to ensure full coverage. Wait until the tanner is dry before putting on clothes or a fluffy bathrobe. After all, this self-care staycation is all about decadence!
Step 5: Put on your favorite show. Or choose something to watch that you haven’t seen before.
The key here is to choose something that uplifts your spirit. No dark emotional flicks or breakup stories. Go with a title that makes you get the warm and fuzzies inside or makes you giggle. The endorphins from laughing and smiling will definitely boost your mood.
Step 6: Participate in any other self-care essentials of your choosing. Or consider trying something new you haven’t attempted before.
This is a great time to do your nails, whiten your teeth, or try out a new perfume. If you would rather, pour a glass of wine or make a cup of your favorite hot tea. Grab a journal and write down a few goals or thoughts. Or even browse Pinterest for some uplifting quote graphics. The choice is up to you but select things that nourish your soul. Not only will this help brighten your mood, but it is also a great way to unwind before you drift off to sleep.
Step 7: Wake up glowing and feeling like a million bucks. You’re amazing and you deserve it!
Wake up the next morning rested and ready to show off your glow! We recommend starting off the day with a quick shower not only to help awaken your senses but to gently wash off any extra product (make sure to only use a light amount of soap). The world is a better place with you in it, so step back out into your daily life. It’s hard to justify slowing down and taking some time for yourself, however, a self-care night can actually do wonders for getting you charged up to 100%.
